Gravitational phase operator and cosmic strings.

چکیده

A quantum equivalence principle is formulated by means of a gravitational phase operator which is an element of the Poincare group. This is applied to the spinning cosmic string which suggests that it may contain gravitational torsion. A new exact solution of the EinsteinCartan-Sciama-Kibble equations for the gravitational field with torsion is obtained everywhere for a cosmic string with uniform energy density, spin density and flux. A novel effect due to the quantized gravitational field of the cosmic string on the wave function of a particle outside the string is used to show that spacetime points are not meaningful in quantum gravity. Constraints on Cosmic Strings from the LIGO-Virgo Gravitational Wave Detectors

Cosmic strings can give rise to a large variety of interesting astrophysical phenomena. Among them, powerful bursts of gravitational waves (GWs) produced by cusps are a promising observational signature. In this Letter we present a search for GWs from cosmic string cusps in data collected by the LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave detectors between 2005 and 2010, with over 625 days of live time. ...

The next generation of gravitational wave detectors holds out the prospect of detecting a stochastic gravitational wave background generated in the very early universe. In this article, we review the various cosmological processes which can lead to such a background, including quantum fluctuations during inflation, bubble collisions in a first-order phase transition and the decay of a network o...

Gravitational Waves and Light Cosmic Strings

Gravitational wave signatures from cosmic strings are analyzed numerically. Cosmic string networks form during phase transistions in the early universe and these networks of long cosmic strings break into loops that radiate energy in the form of gravitational waves until they decay. The gravitational waves come in the form of harmonic modes from individual string loops, a “confusion noise” from...

Moduli from Cosmic Strings

Moduli fields are generally present in superstring–inspired models. They are typically characterized by masses of the order of the supersymmetry breaking scale and by interactions of gravitational strength to ordinary matter. If stable, they can easily overclose the Universe. If unstable, strong limits on their abundance have to be imposed not to disrupt the successful prediction of nucleosynth...

Gravitational Radiation by Cosmic Strings in a Junction

The formalism for computing the gravitational power radiation from excitations on cosmic strings forming a junction is presented and applied to the simple case of co-planar strings at a junction when the excitations are generated along one string leg. The effects of polarization of the excitations and of the back-reaction of the gravitational radiation on the small scale structure of the string...
